The QE2 Farewell at Southampton November 11th 2008
The QE2 left Southampton for the very last time on November 11th 2008. Britain's most famous ship will go into retirement as a floating hotel in Dubai.
The QE2 weighs 70,000 tonnes and is one of the largest passenger ships afloat, with a top speed of 32.5 knots. It's not very well known that the ship was not called after the present Queen. The number 2 in her title actually means that she was the second ship named Queen Elizabeth.
Thousands of people turned out at Southampton to see the QE2 leave on her final departure, for Dubai.
