Low Carb Diet Information
I put this page together because I'm starting a low carb diet. About 5 years ago I easily lost 25lb in 3 months by following the Atkins diet. I'm starting a low carb diet again, this time taking care to avoid saturated fats, and looking at more of a South Beach type diet, to include fruit. I've also included links to health study information for my own benefit.

Carb Life (Low Carb UK) explains how low carb diet can be considered to be the opposite to a low fat diet. A low carb diet needs you to limit your intake of sugars and carbohydrates. The body needs energy to function, it will take whatever is available and convert it to glycogen. If you don't eat sugars and carbohydrates, the body will metabolise the fats for its energy source. This site has great information including a carb counter and a BMI index.

Everyday Health has a very interesting article which discusses the potentially high saturated fat impact of the Atkins Diet, how the South Beach diet distinguishes between good and bad fats, and the results of studies comparing cholesterol levels impacted by various diets including a low carb diet. |
