Wisbech in the Second World War

Add this Wisbech War Pictures page to your "favourites" list - Just Click

Wisbech is a Cambridgeshire port town on the River Nene, near The Wash. Wisbech had a pretty lucky world war 2, escaping relatively unscathed. There were some tragic incidents, though. On November 11th 1940, a lone German Bomber dropped bombs believed to be aimed at the Wisbech Gas Works. The raid took place in mid afternoon, whilst the weather was rainy. Missing the target by several hundred metres, a huge bomb demolished houses in Albany Road. At least one resident, believed to be Mrs South, was killed.
